Expo 2010 German-Chinese House, Shanghai, China

2-storey walkable exhibition area with 330 square metres for the world exhibition in Shanghai. The innovative art building exists with 8 m height, 25 m width and 10 m depth to a great extent of bamboo canes and bamboo laminates. The building is constructed with new developed connecting and procedure technologies for bamboo. Principals of the "Special Structure" house are the German Federal Foreign Office together with the Goethe Institute: it represents the events series „Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together" (DuC), which was devoted itself to the topic „sustained urbanization".

German-Chinese Esplanade IV & V 2009 Jiangtan Esplanade, Wuhan, China 2009 Zhongshan Park, Shenyang, China

This initiative from the Federal Republic of Germany last from 2007 to 2010. The main idea: to present for a limited time in selected mega cities of China on a choosen central square a designing how future urban and living spaces could be by German imaginations and visions. 2009 different buildings, pavilions and installions were showen in summer in Shenyang and in autumn in Wuhan.

European Dome 2009 Central World Plaza, Bangkok, Thailand

A pentagonal inside twisted dome with 5 m diameter and 7 m height made by lying upon another bamboo tubes was presented on a public place in the centre of Bangkok. Each bamboo tube had a diameter of 12 cm and a length of 3 m, was layered on the end of the bamboo tube above, but each layer was rotated by 3 cm in clockwise direction. At night the installation was coloured lightened from inside. It was a project in cooperation with Silpakom University, Faculity of Architecture and supported by the European Union as well the German Embassy in Bangkok.

The sound is created by the bounce of waterdrops in tins and bowls. They serve as sounding body and generate, depending on size, different sounds. Wassermusik III sound installation with 13x30 l water dispenser and beton bucket. Wassermusik II, 5 x 50 l glass balloons standing on steel racks. Wassermusik I, 130 x 1 l PET-bottles, 130 plastic buckets, 130 metal tins.

German-Chinese Esplanade II & III 2008 Dalitang Square, Chongqing, China 2008 Tian He Stadion Square, Guangzhou, China

Design of the central city squares in spring in Chongqing and in autumn in Guangzhou with different buildings, pavilions and installations for the presentation of Germany in China - a 3-years-projekt until 2010 of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The idea behind the temporary design and alteration of the city squares in those mega-cities is the examination of the urban and living spaces according to the issues and the city visions of the Germany Esplanade.

Pavilions II 2008/2009 Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shenyang, China

For the further stations of the Germany Esplanade new pavilion types and sizes were developed as objects and exhibition rooms which can be connected and combined with each other. The areas of the single buildings are measured from 55 to 150 square meters. With three different kinds of construction of bamboo tubes and laminate six different types of pavilions were created. The facades of the different pavilions are even or plaited, of fabric or metal, transparent - crystal clear or coloured translucently.

Living Dome 2008 The Landfoundation, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Roofed rotunda of a bamboo tube construction for living bamboo, which is growing aloft along it. It has a diameter of 3,80 m, a hight over 9 m and two levels. Alongside the support tubes with a diameter of 12 cm there are planted at a time bamboo sprouts. Those shall grow along the tubes and replace after ca. two years as living bamboo the existing construction. Those again will be newly planted - and so on. In cooperation and with support from the Goethe-Institut Bangkok and the Landfoundation of Rirkrit Tiravanija, Kamin Lartchaiprasert and Suwan Laimanee.

Treehouse 2007 Nimanhemi Road, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Treehouse installation at a height of 10 metres on the treetop of an old jungle tree in the center of the city. The space object, made of bamboo only, is 7 m long, 5 m broad and 3,60 m high, walkable in the inside and visible from a distance. The form consists of complete bamboo tubes joined together in a frame construction and of split bamboo which is interwoven like a cocoon to a basket-like outer shell. The design of the installation is documenting the harmony of nature and cities as an elementary topic of the future. The project was realized in cooperation with the faculty of architecture of the CMU University Chiang Mai.

German-Chinese Esplanade I 2007 Daxinggong Square, Nanjing, China

Arrangement of a place with different buildings and pavillons for the presentation of Germany in China - a three-year-project of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany.  On 19 October 2007 the first German Esplanade (Deutschlandpromenade) started at the Daxinggong Place in Nanjing in the province of Jiangsu as a German-Chinese cultural encounter. In the center of interest stands the public area which is experienced as an overall project because of the artistic-architectural design concept.

Pavillons I 2007/2008 Nanjing, China

Design and realization of 14 golden and transparent bamboo pavillons in different sizes and forms as walkable objects and exhibition rooms for the German Explanade . The construction consists of bamboo pipes and bamboo composite boards and a therefore newly developed assembly system. The facades are plaited from transparent synthetic material or golden bronze-fabric and result in a lightshow because of the different reflections of the illumination in the day and in the night. The pavillons will be presented temporary until 2010 in different cities of China.

Open room construction made of bamboo only in the form of an airship, 27 m long and 5,50 m high. The object is placed in the water above a paddy field and the inside is made walkable by a boardwalk 14 m long. The mirroring in the water conveys a pending impression. The ground construction consists of hexagons in different sizes which are connected with each other.

Sandzeichen 2005 Pai River, Pai/North of Thailand

Four revolving bamboo constructions were installed over a distance of 40 m in the shoaled valley of the Pai River. The circle forms painted into the sand this way are partly overlapping with their concentric inner circles and have a diameter of 12 m each. They emerge from turning the bamboo racks around their static axes. Each visitor can draw those sand circles afresh repeatedly.

Damoto 2003 LVA Augsburg, Germany

Moving sculpture out of a bent body made of aluminium, 5,25 m long and 4,28 m high, subdivided in three segments. The segments are connected with each other by swivels. This way the wind is causing a permanent changing of the object. Through the motion of the wings the refraction upon the silver anodized surfaces is changing too.

Fernweh 2003 Center of Regensburg, Germany

20 identical spotlights are placed into the road surface in a distance of 18 m to each other as a light installation. They are leading linear along the main road from the train station into the city. The spotlights are having the effect of looking into deep water and refer to the Danube river nearby, which is partly running underground. - Diametre of the lights 14 cm, stainless steel, glass lens, quartz iodine lamp, colour: grass-green.

Ardeo 2002 Center of Erding, Germany

Stainless steel bowl with a diametre of 3,50 m out of 11 rings. The adjustment of the rings result in openings with variabel size. Only two rings at a time are overlapping at an intersection. By night the inner form of the bowl is illuminated with changing colours by spotlights in the fundament. The diametre of a ring is 8 x 16 cm.

 2002 Kallmann-Museum, Ismaning, Germany

6 lighted boxes with architectural floor plans of Bavarian castles. Through the transparent lines of the plans the visitor looks directly into the inside of the boxes. Illumination with black light. Material: wood, glass and large scale slides. 140 cm broad, 35 cm high, 26 cm deep. Themes of the six boxes: residencies in Ismaning, Neuschwanstein, Nymphenburg, Ansbach (Orangery), Schleißheim (baroque garden and castle).

Flügel 2001 Center of Wiesloch, Germany

Moving sculpture with a maximal heigth of 8,50 m, consisting of three bent wings made of aluminium and plastic, connected by swivels. The object is put into motion by wind power and is thereby changing its form. Width is between 0,80 m and 1,20 m. The wings are built in lightweight construction with composit material. Illumination by night with ground spots.

Sphäre 2003 Hartmann Art, Heidenheim, Germany 2001 Max-Planck-Haus, Munich, Germany

Water object with a tube bowl of 2,60 m diametre and a water basin of 1,20 m. Water streams are mounting out of the basin by immersion pump into a bowl with transparent tubes which is floating 8 m above the ground. When flowing back the water is mixing with air and circulates around the bowl, accelerated by low pressure. - Transparent tubes with a diametre of 3,5 cm. Water basin of steel, diametre 1,10 m, heigth 0,44 m. Immersion pump with guidance. Bowl of tabular steel, diametre 2,60 m.

network 2001 Munich, Germany

Light box of 2,50 x 1,70 m with 45 computer-controlled light modules and internet connection. Functionality: A visitor speaks his name into a microphone or types it into a key pad. The worldwide request via internet by several search engines finds the country within seconds, where the name is registered. The name of the country is then shown on the respective light modul.

Screenhouse 2000 Hypo-Building, Munich, Germany

Internet-image-projection upon the Hypobank-skyscraper at the belt highway. Every 30 seconds an accidently chosen website of the world wide web was reproduced in the size of 900 square metres. The projected pictures were broadcasted at the same time by a camera live in the internet www.screenhouse.de . Projection upon the facade with two high performance beamers over a distance of 160 m.

Pool 2000 Skulpturenpark Kallmann-Museum, Palace Garden Ismaning, Germany

Light installation with a 36 square metres lightbox made of black steel and illuminated blue plexiglass. Location in the park on the central axis of the pavillon. At daytime the light is mirroring on the blue acryl glass and makes it look like a water surface. At night the "pool" shines in an intense blue. - Depth 6 x 6 m, heigth 0,70 m, 18 mm acryl glass.

Situ 2000 , Palace Garden Nymphenburg, Erwin von Kreibig-Museum, Munich, Germany

Replica of the castle circus in the form of the ground plan as a three-dimensional object made of plastic. Both of the white, large-sized quadrants are laying and standing opposite of each other in the circus in front of the Erwin von Kreibig-Museum. - Height 3,20 m, breadth 4,30 m, depth 3,20 m.

Untergrundspiele 1999 Subway, Munich, Germany

Walkable room installation in an underground hall of the subway with a 90 m long and 15 m broad playing field screen in red fluorescent color at the floor. On the raster visitor can move 50 illuminated balls in the size of 30 to 60 cm. Illumination with black light fluorescent lamps. A thermographic camera is recording the movements of the visitors. These pictures were broadcasted directly into the internet and could be seen by the visitors at a web monitor in the hall.

Quid Vides 1999 Parco Archeologico di Cuma/Naples, Italy

Two neon installations in a 2750 year old archaeological site, founded by the greeks. The red neon writing is mounted on the rock at the entrance to the oracle of Sibylle. Length of the writing 1 m, height 0,14 m. The blue neon writing is situated at the crag beneath the pillars of the Apollo temple. Length of the writing 5 m, height 0,6 m.

Geteilt 1998 Kunststoffmuseum, Lingen, Germany

Light box installation across two floors with shielding and lucent fronts made of shielding plastic plates and lucent plexiglass. 30 light tubes are put underneath the visible light ports. This way the front area of 10 square metres is split by intense light lines into arrays of different sizes. - Three light boxes à 1,80 x 1,80 m, depth 0,20 m, height in total 5,50 m.

In Balance 1998 School Poing, Germany

Room installation with three shapes crossed into one another. 5 m above the ground the linear object breezes balanced on a designated radius. Into the first shape there is a red neon tube, into the third shape a blue neon tube mounted concentrically. - Performance: 50 mm aluminium pipe, total length 9,60 m, breadth 0,40 m, height 0,80 m, suspension by steel cable with current lead.

Seven Roses 1996 Manchester, Park Affetside/Westlinton,UK

Moving installation with 7 wind objects in the park of Westlinton. The group of objects is stringing out over a distance of 100 metres. The alignment of the objects refers to the wind direction and is diagonal or parallel to the surface. The objects are made of laminated material in lightweight construction. Diagonal home position is 17 ° at calm.

Fünf Rahmen 1998 Kunststoffmuseum, Lingen, Germany

Five frames, 4.20 m high and made of 25 cm moulded circular tube, are accurately placed in one row over a distance of 0,7 m. In addition they are differently revolved around their horizontal and diagonal axes. The fan-shaped arrangement is alter depending on the position of the visitor. - Performance: Plastic pipes white, foot of stainless steel, illumination by spotlights in the floor, frame width 1,90 m.

Windows 1998 Palazzo Querini Stampalia, Venice, Italy 1997 Zhejiang Museum, Hangzhou, China Donaufestival, Linz, Austria Haus der Kulturen, Berlin, Germany Orensanz Foundation, New York, USA

Eight boxes, each box contains acht inner spaces, accessible through small windows. The 74 inner spaces are designed with light-, sound- and moving objects. The characters on the front sides of the boxes declare the issues of the inner spaces. - Depth of the box 0,55 m, height 2,20 m, breadth 1,25 m, depth of pedestal 0,90 m.

Dance 1998

Moving object, height 2,5 m, breadth 1,25 m, depth 1,25 m. 20 blue waves painted on acryl glass turn around in a steel frame. By electronic controller and step motor the waves are revolved individually or synchronously in two directions. A floating undulation arises through the intersection. Illumination with black light. Several motion sequences are programmed as dances.

Depot X I und II 1997 Sieben-Kapellen, Innsbruck, Austria 1996 Fabrikhalle, Munich Germany

Depot X I, light-room installation in the Seven-Chapels. Cross linkage of seven rooms of the church by phosphorescent electric cables and 63 black light tubes. The lucent cables with a total length of 1500 m were newly developed for the installation.
Depot X II, light-room installation in an industry hall from 1910. The room contours are reproduced by phosphorescent lines of 12 cm breadth. Only these lines are visible through the illumination with UV black light. The visitor moves like in a virtual architectural plan. Size of the hall 300 square metres, heigth 14 m.

Tenso 1996 Pfennigparade - Foundation, Munich, Germany

Moving object with five gimballed wings and 48 stainless steel cables, which are wired between three buildings in a height of 5 to 8 m and in 30 m length. The wings are getting moved by wind power over horizontal and vertical axes. - Wings: aluminium, light weight construction, silvery anodised, breadth 0,70 m, height 1,60 m.

Stones & Voices 1995 Stiftung für konkrete Kunst, Reutlingen, Germany

Video work with 55 artists from different countries. The thought and visions “about the world” of a participant were shown at each monitor at a time. The recordings originated in München, New York and Boston. Placed opposite the "voices" were 100 waterfilled bowls by Martin Rosenthal with Rain-Flower-Pebbles - stones with a special colour structure of the Yangtze-.Qiang in China as a traditional Chinese way of exhibition.

Moving object, height 6,50 m, comprising of foot, arc of moulded laminated circular tubes and a convex disc. Arc and disc are revolving independently of each other by wind power at diagonal and excentric axes. - Disc: frontside blue, backside silvery. Arc made of aluminium, length 5,90 m.

Kita 1994 School, Neuperlach/Munich, Germany

Moving installation with seven differently high wing stela in a circular assembly. The wings are reacting because of their excentric attachment at horizontal and vertical axes to each movement of the wind. - Wings in light weight construction of aluminium, varnished in different colours. Length of a wing 132 cm, breadth 11 cm, steel poles, plated white. Height between 3,50 m and 5,50 m.

Kuss, Denker 1994 and 2001 by Auguste Rodin

The Kiss. Light box, cut into 15 light arrays with permanently changing light By analogical control system the 15 arrays are shining in different combinations to each other as mosaics. - Height 0,94 m, breadth 0,75 m, depth 0,07 cm.
The Thinker. A permanently changing light mosaic. Photograph of "The Thinker" by Auguste Rodin cut into 18 light boxes, each 35 x 35 cm, illuminated by analogical relais control in different intervals. - Height 2,30 m, breadth 1,10 m.

Arbeitszeit 1994 KHD Building, Cologne Germany

Three groups of figures are permanently moving in a hall of 70 m length in the high rise of the Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz company. Installed are: two rubber bellows in converse movements up and down. A yellow-white arbor, racked 10 m, folded together 2 x 2 m, making a U-turn when folded and is unfolded afterwards. Ten wings in different height underneath the ceiling with gimballed bedding are put into motion when somebody is walking through the hall.

Las Fosses 1994 Agen/Garonne, France

Design of the garden of a country estate from the 16th century, with sculptures, plants and water objects as well as recreation and rearrangement of the court yards, the spa and the outside facilities. Among others there was installed: A water garden with an open Jacuzzi, a 30 m long and 6 m high wall with footbridge and look-out, a lighhouse, walls with layers of stones and a 7 m long waterfall. In the main garden there are 10 skulptures, from 2 to 7 m length, made of steel, aluminium, bronze, terracotta, mosaic and stone.

Isarinstallation 1990 Riverproject, Munich, Germany

Installation above the isar canal along 200 m with four frames, 13 m high and 3,50 m broad, made of airplane-aluminium, a 13 m long boat, a swimming mirror, 9,5 m high and 4 m broad, and a 4 m high walkable staircase. The frames were fixed concentrically above the river in 12 m height on cable ropes and could make a U-turn in the wind. River and installation were illuminated at night.
